Painting competition held in Chandel

Chandel, May 12 2026:
In connection with the upcoming observance of the International Day of Biodiversity on May 22, a painting competition was organised today at Maha Union Higher Secondary School under the theme "Acting Locally for Global Impact" .
The programme was organised by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Chandel, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 60 students representing 12 different schools of the district.
Speaking in this connection, DR N Munal Meitei, DFO Chandel, stated that the Forest Department has been organising similar observance programmes annually in every district of the State to create awareness on biodiversity conservation among the younger generation.
He informed that three winners from today's competition will be selected to participate in the State-level competition.
The winners of the district-level event will also be awarded cash prizes of Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively along with a certificate each.
Dr Munal said that the primary objective of organising the painting competition was to nurture love and concern for nature among students through artistic expression, while also encouraging collective efforts towards conserving and protecting endangered wildlife species.
Highlighting the importance of biodiversity, he stated that biodiversity forms the foundation of all living beings and maintains ecological balance.
He further noted that the biodiversity of a region reflects the health and condition of its ecosystem.
Appealing especially to the students community.
Dr Munal urged all sections of society to work together in protecting and preserving biodiversity.
