Imphal, October 11 2026:
The JAC on Unnatural Death of Paonam Dhaneshwor has declared a 24-hour shutdown in Khurai area from Monday midnight.
The shutdown, however, will not affect religious rituals and medical services, said the committee's convenor Konsam Dilip Meitei during a sit-in demonstration organised at Tinsid Road, Khurai Kongpal today.
The decision to impose the shutdown was taken after the Government and relevant departments failed to take concrete steps to swiftly and impartially conduct an investigation into the death of Paonam Dhaneshwor, Dilip said.
Agitation will continue until the truth behind Dhaneshwor's death is ascertained, he added.
Paonam Dhaneshwor (58) hailed from Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai.
He died at the JNIMS Hospital on October 1 after allegedly consuming insecticide.
The death came days after Paonam Dhaneshwor was reportedly summoned by the Cyber Crime Police in connection with a complaint which reportedly alleged that he had made obscene and derogatory remarks against an elected representative.
Following Dhaneshwor's death, his wife had filed a written complaint with Porompat police station, alleging that her husband was driven to take his own life due to criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, mental harassment as a result of the allegations levelled against him.
