Session Judge, Imphal East, Yumkham Rother today convicted 58-year-old Md Abdul Halim for murdering his wife by stabbing her with a knife at their rented residence at Golapati Maning Leikai Tangki Makhong on June 14, 2013 .
The judgment was pronounced today after the Court had reserved the order following the final submissions of Tongbram Bipinchandra, Public Prosecutor for the State, and the defence counsel on June 24 .
The case was registered against Md Abdul Halim (58), of Kwakta Khuman and presently residing at Golapati Maning Leikai Tangki Makhong, based on a complaint lodged by the victim's son on June 14, 2013 .
According to the complaint, at around 5.40 pm on the day of the incident, the victim was stabbed by her husband with a knife at their rented residence.
She was immediately evacuated to Public Hospital, Hatta, for treatment but succumbed to her injuries.
Following the incident, Abdul fled the scene and hid inside a nearby house.
He was arrested by police at around 7 pm the same day from the rented house.
The Investigating Officer, Inspector Kishore Kumar Salam, submitted a chargesheet after completing the investigation.
To establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses and produced 21 documentary exhibits and eight material exhibits.
The accused, meanwhile, examined himself as the sole defence witness during the trial.
After hearing the submissions of the Public Prosecutor and defence counsel, the Court convicted Md.Abdul Halim for the offence of murder punishable under Section 302 IPC .
The court also issued a warrant of arrest against the convict and directed the Officer-in-Charge of Porompat Police Station to produce him before the Court for further necessary legal proceedings.
