Imphal, June 11 2009: State Chief Minister, O Ibobi who return from Delhi in connection with obtaining necessary clearance for setting up Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) today held consultation meeting with ministers and officials on taking up first phase of the Nambul project, an official source said.

The meeting convened under the chair of the chief minister was also attended by state works minister, K Ranjit, IFCD minister N Biren, officials of MAHUD and engineers of the IFCD, the source said.

In the first phase of the project, improvement works of Nambul river from Khoyathong to Keishamthong including covering of the river from Khoyathong to Maharani Bridge with RCC plate will be taken up, the source said.

State government has a planned to cover the said stretch of the Nambul river and making parking place and broadening of the road for 18 feet at the same portion.

For this government has started processing for acquisition of land, the source said.

Under the project, RCC retaining wall will be constructed on both side of the river bank from Maharani Bridge to Keishampat Bridge.

A 18 feet width road will also develop on the easten side of the bank on Paona Bazar side.

The making of the road remained unprocessed after some people encroached some portion of the road which was develop during the last president rule in the state and due to incompletion in the payment of compensation to the affected land owners.

Concern deputy commissioner has been asked to identified and demarcate the land which would be affected during land acquisition and calculate the require amount in paying the compensation to the standing properties and land owners.

Government is getting ready to pay out the compensation as soon as DC submits its report, the source added.

Government has been trying to take up the project at the earliest considering the increasing congestion and parking problem facing by the people and taking into account to the government plan to keep the Imphal city clean and need.

The project is to be taken up with the fund from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission which Manipur government has decided to beautify the Imphal city.
