Imphal, June 10 2025:
Highlighting the crippling impacts of bandhs on all sections of the society, particularly those living hand to mouth, the KCP has declared a permanent ban on bandhs.
"The Politburo Standing Committee of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), after careful deliberation and in full consensus, has resolved to actively oppose the culture of bandhs and confront those who perpetuate them whom we now term 'bandh merchants' in every way possible", said a press release issued by KCP Politburo Standing Committee chairman Ibungo Ngangom.
It also gave a detailed account of the devastating impacts of bandhs on rickshaw drivers (cycle, auto, e-rickshaw operators), women vendors (vegetable and fish sellers), daily wage earners (construction labourers, porters, helpers etc) and education.
Announcing a permanent and unequivocal ban on the practice of calling bandhs in Kangleipak with immediate effect, the outfit has called upon all civil society organisations to embrace alternative protest methods that are impactful yet constructive, forms of resistance that do not jeopardize the livelihoods of the working poor or disrupt the education and future of children.
