Imphal, November 07 2025:
The Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Kangleipak urged the Government to cancel this year's Sangai Festival, stating that the current situation is not conducive for such an event.
CSOs, Kangleipak is a conglomerate of different groups viz PANDM, IPSA, ACOAM-Lup, IPAK, KSA, ERDO, KANGLA MEI, KIL, CLK, SWA, LOYALUP, MIKAL, AKSIL and ANDOK.
A press release issued by the CSOs said that the Government's plan to host the Sangai Festival is highly inappropriate, as it has not succeeded in any initiative meant for the welfare of the people amid the crisis.
The internally displaced people (IDPs) are still taking refuge in relief camps, and their suffering has not subsided even though the Government has undertaken some relief measures, it said.
The CSOs further stated that many IDPs whose houses have either been torched or flattened are unable to inspect whatever remains of their homes, let alone return to their villages.
IDPs from Churachandpur, Torbung, Moreh, Leitanpokpi, Kadangband, Kangpokpi, etc, are still suffering in relief camps, it said.
The CSOs added that a section of people are also still unable to move beyond Pallel, Torbung, Keithelmanbi, Sekmai etc.
Despite repeated assurances, the Government has failed to facilitate free movement across the State, it said.
Accusing the Government of trying to falsely portray that normalcy has returned in Manipur, the CSOs conveyed their endorsement of COCOMI's call to boycott the Sangai Festival.
The Peace and Integrity Committee Kyamgei (PICK) and All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup (AKNCTL) also condemned the Government's decision to host the Sangai Festival.
A press release issued by PICK stated that people will not accept normalcy has returned in Manipur until the issues of IDPs are resolved.
