PSDC condemns brutal killing of girl student, demands capital punishment

The Private Schools Development Council (PSDC) Thoubal district has strongly condemned the brutal killing of a young girl student yesterday.
It may be noted that in a gruesome incident, Jenika Sapam, a class VI student at Ibemhal Visal Academy, Sapam was hacked to death by Sapam Sarat who is reported to be a mentally unsound individual while Jenika was on her way to school.
Addressing media persons during a press meet held today at Fancier Higher Secondary School, PSDC secretary general Jotin Salam strongly denounced the gruesome incident and expressed dismay that young students who are in school uniform are not even safe while going to schools.
In view of the severity of the crime, he urged the authorities concerned to expedite the legal process to provide stringent punishment to the culprit at the earliest so as to deliver justice to the young departed soul and the bereaved family.
He also stressed on the need of counselling to the bereaved family members to help them overcome this traumatic experience.
He maintained that capital punishment should be given to the culprit.
Raising serious concerns on the issues of drug abuse, human trafficking and violence in today's society, he urged the Home Department and its relevant departments to take up strong measures such as life security efforts for the welfare of all.
He also highlighted the key role of parents towards this cause.
Further, the Private Schools Development Council resolved to extend full support to the activities of the JAC to ensure that justice is delivered.
In connection with the medical facilities in the district, Jotin sought the attention of the relevant authorities to equip the hospitals in the district with adequate medical infrastructure to address serious medical cases.
