NAMA Convention brings Manipuri diaspora together in New Jersey

The 35th Convention of the North American Manipur Association (NAMA) was held in New Jersey on July 4, bringing together around participants from across the United States, along with guests from India.
The North American Manipur Association (NAMA) in a release said that the association is a non-profit organisation formed by people from the Indian State of Manipur residing in the United States and Canada.
The association is dedicated to preserving and promoting the social, cultural and educational heritage of the Manipuri community in North America.

Sobita Laishram, and chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Lalit Pukhrambam, attended the convention as presidium members.
The convention commenced with the singing of the National anthems of the United States and India by Langlen Heisnam, followed by an opening song presented by the New Jersey host family.
A welcome address was delivered by Sushil and Renu Laishram.
A solemn tribute was paid to members who had passed away, while NAMA president Dr Thoihen Heisnam presented a brief history of the association and its achievements over the years.
The association's treasury report was presented by Priyananda Soubam.
The convention also featured the distribution of prizes to winners of painting and essay writing competitions.
An academic session was organised to provide guidance on admission procedures for universities in the United States, along with other educational and technical information for students and parents.
The evening concluded with a vibrant cultural programme featuring Western music, dance performances, karaoke, group dance by women and the traditional Thabal Chongba.
