Imphal, August 05 2026: A hand grenade has been found placed at the residence of a businessman at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai, Imphal West district under Lamphel police station.

According to information culled from the spot, a hand grenade was found at the residence of one Hodam Rakesh (39) at Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai at around 5 am today.

It is said that Hodam Rakesh is a businessman who deals in fish.

It was suspected that some unidentified persons placed the hand grenade there last night.

Police have retrieved the hand grenade and registered a case at Lamphel police station.

On the other hand, local people staged a protest demonstration at Sangaiprou this afternoon in protest against the act of placing a hand grenade at the residence of Rakesh.

Sangaiprou Apunba Nupi Lup president Sanasam (O) Radheshyam said there have been repeated incidents of placing bombs at their locality and this has created a fear psychosis among the local residents.

It is a matter of grave concern that even petty businessmen are being targeted and intimidated, she said.

She appealed to all concerned to resolve all issues or misunderstandings through dialogue, and refrain from such acts of intimidation in the future.
