BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, marked World Environment Day 2026 with a plantation drive at its Takyelpat campus.
Faculty, staff, and researchers planted endangered and medicinal saplings provided by the Forest Department, reinforcing the institute's commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of bioresources.
The Central Bureau of Communication, Imphal, with the Central Forest Division, held a programme at CBC Auditorium, Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai.
Regional Director Dr Engam Pame presided, urging respect for Mother Earth beyond symbolism.
Dr N Reena Devi spoke on traditional conservation.
Cultural performances and distribution of 70 saplings marked the event.
The Forest Department launched "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0" at SAI NERC Takyelpat.
PCCF Anurag Bajpai, with APCCF Soreiphy Vashum and CCFs Gaithaolu Thaimei and RK Amarjit, planted saplings with SAI officials, coaches, and athletes.
Bajpai said 8-9 lakh seedlings would be planted during a week-long Van Mahotsav from July 1 to meet a 70 lakh target, noting Manipur's 74% forest cover.
Orphanages statewide will join the campaign.
The department also carried out a plantation drive at Loushangkhong Nongdren Pakhangba Laibung and surrounding areas.
Officials including CCF M L Joykumar, K Hrishikesh, Bjoem Wode and Dr Karam Pal Singh Brar participated.
Several civil bodies - Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba Lup (WAMA), Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts & Cultural Society (KIMACS), Irabot Memorial Trust Keibi, Umang Lai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL), Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Green Foundation, Environment Protection Union Manipur, Manipur Students' Federation (MSF), and All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) - also observed the day with plantation and awareness activities.
