Imphal, August 04 2010: Putting to rest all speculations and apprehensions that insurgent groups in the North East have intensified their activities after getting aid from China, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today informed the Rajya Sabha that there are no specific reports about this as yet.

Replying to supplementaries raised in the Upper House today, Chidambaram said that the Government is aware of the fact that some insurgents procure arms, ammunition and explosives and establish camps in some neighbouring countries.

The concern of the Government of India over this have been conveyed at various bilateral fora, he said and added that to neutralise the activities of the insurgents along the border areas, strict vigil is on.

Conceding that the border areas are painfully porous, the Home Minister admitted that it is due to this that militants are able to sneak in comfortably from across the border to carry out their subversive activities here.

Informing the House that it is well nigh impossible for the Government to fence the border areas, the Union Home Minister said that much more needs to be done for border area development in the country.

Answering to the supplementaries listed for the day's proceedings, the Union Home Minister said that the Chief Minister of Manipur has invited the United Naga Council for a dialogue.

Significantly none of the hills based organisations attended the round table conference convened by the Chief Minister yesterday, on August 3 .

The Home Minister further said that the Government is ready to provide security to even private truck convoys to carry essential commodities.
