Camp for PwD kicks off

A 2-day relief camp for Persons with Disability (PwD) has been kicked off at Manipur State Sumang Leela Council premises at Palace Compound, Imphal today.
The camp is being organised by the Interfaith Forum Manipur, State Office of the Disability Commissioner and Disabled Development Association of Manipur (DDAM).
At the inauguration of the camp, Office of Disability Commissioner, W Bihari said the 2-day camp is targeting to benefit around 500 persons with disability.
At the camp pre-registered persons with disability will be given artificial limbs-Jaipur foot, artificial hands, hearing aids, tricycles, wheel chairs, crutches and walking sticks, he said.
Responding to a query from reporters regarding 7 PwD students who have not been allotted Govt institutions after clearing NEET examinations, Bihari said his office has received a complaint and has given necessary instructions to authorities to look into the matter.
The complaint his office received has claimed that after counselling, students with disabilities have been alloted Shija Hospital for admission.
His office has taken note of this and has given instructions to the Commissioner and the Director of the Health Department to inquire and look into the matter and submit a response within 30 days, Bihari said.
Manipur State Sumang leela Council advisor and former Minister Dr M Nara, DDAM advisor Dr Kiran, Bharat Seva Sansthan general secretary GS Bapna and National Youth Project treasurer Hanuman S attended the event.
The camp is being sponsored by the Jaipur Foot, Shree Bhagwan Mahavir Vilang Sahayata Samiti, Bharat Seva Sansthan, Jaipur and Peacebuilders Forum India.
