Additional DC Jiribam issues advisory note in view of incessant rainfall

Jiribam, July 03 2024:
The general public of Jiribam district have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid the loss of life and property in view of the incessant rainfall in various parts of Manipur.
In a public advisory note, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Jiribam district appealed to the general public of Jiribam district to take the following precautions.
The general public has been advised to stay informed, keep themselves updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings issued by the local, State and National authorities and to remain calm and not to panic by ignoring rumours.
Furthermore, they have been advised to
- Reinforce doors and windows, secure loose objects
- Prepare emergency kit with essential items such as non-perishable foods, water, torchlights, first aid supplies, medicines etc for safety and survival
- Children and elderlies are advised to stay indoors and not to come out of the house unless under unavoidable circumstances
- Keep emergency contacts handy
- Stay away from vulnerable structures, unattached metal sheets, banana trees, papaya trees etc
- Postpone agriculture and other related activities till the weather condition improves
- Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often
- Remain alert for any possible breach of river banks/overflooding in any area.
The advisory note further informed the public to contact the District Helpline number -8794854167 for any emergency.
It may be noted that the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its weather bulletin dated July 1, 2024 had forecasted that Manipur is going to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall associated with thunderstorm and lightening for the next five days.
