RIMS marks World Bicycle Day with massive rally

Imphal, June 03 2026:
As part of the Swachhata Action Plan, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, in collaboration with the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA) and other cycling bodies, organised a bicycle rally today to mark World Bicycle Day 2026 under the theme "Cycling for a Greener Future".
The rally was flagged off by RIMS Director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma from Jubilee Hall in the presence of Medical Superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh, who also rode with the participants.
Around 320 cyclists, including faculty, staff, students, and cycling enthusiasts from across the State, took part.
The route covered Uripok, Iroisemba, Lamsang, Heibongpokpi, Lairenkabi, and Phayeng.
Prof Sunil Kumar described cycling as a simple, affordable way to boost health and protect the environment, urging the public to adopt it as regular exercise and eco-friendly transport to cut pollution.
Film actress Soma Laishram joined the rally and encouraged people to make cycling part of daily life to reduce environmental pollution and promote healthier living.
Separately, Prof Sunil Kumar inaugurated an AMRIT Pharmacy at the New Maternity Block of RIMS.
The facility aims to improve access to essential medicines, ensure timely drug availability, strengthen maternal and neonatal care, support emergencies, and enhance patient-centred services.
