Imphal, April 03 2010:
Demanding declaration of the viva-voce conducted for recruitment of 3453 Primary Teachers under Autonomous District Council by April 5, the Joint Action Committee for 2006/2009 Autonomous District Council DPC faced Candidates' Parents and Guardians, Manipur has resolved to call 72 hours general strike in hill districts with effect from April 6 midnight.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, JAC co-convenor RS Khawungsing said that DPC for appointment of Primary Teachers was held on October 11 last year with a view to make up the strength of teachers wanted in schools of hill districts.
However, results of the viva-voce have not been declared till date, indicating that the Congress-led SPF Government is little concerned about education.
Memorandums and reminders have been submitted to the Chief Minister, relevant Ministers and officials to declare results of the DPC since November 12 last year but to no avail.
In case the Government fails to give a positive response by April 5, the JAC would call general strike in hill districts with effect from April 6 midnight till April 9 midnight.
Electricity, water supply and press/media would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
The general strike would be followed by indefinite economic blockade on both NH 39 and NH 53, the co-convenor added.
