Imphal, November 02 2008: FOLLOWING THE instruction of the state police chief, Imphal west district police has started verification drives to the rented houses in Imphal areas from today, officials said Sunday.

"We've started the verification drive from today onwards in Imphal," said L Kailun, Senior Superintendent of Police Imphal west while talking to this correspondent over phone today.

DGP Manipur Yumnam Joykumar, mention may be made that taking serious of the serial blast in Assam and possibility of similar attacks in Manipur and as a part of beef up security measure has appealed to house owners in the state to verify properly while taking rent.

In a statement, he said, "no person whose identity and antecedent is not known be allowed to stay on rent".

On October 21 night, a powerful bomb explosion rocked the state capital killing 17 persons and injuring over 40 others near Ragailong village in Imphal west district.

Feeling that the serial blasts in the region is appeared to be on the same trend as had taken place in other states and those responsible appear to be same, State Police chief appealed to all house owners to submit full particulars of their tenants to the police stations concerned so that verification of the character and antecedents of the tenant can be carried out.

Seeking the cooperation of the public in detecting unattended vehicles, the statement said, "If any such vehicles were detected, the same may be informed to police control room on priority".

No person is allowed to park their vehicle at a public place until and unless the vehicle has been checked thoroughly before the owner leaves it behind, it said.

Like in Manipur, similar step has also started taken up in neighbouring state Nagaland also.

Liremo Lotha, Superintendent of Police of Dimapur has appealed its denizens to immediately report any 'unclaimed' or 'unidentified' objects to the concerned police stations.

At the same time Maongwati Aier, Deputy Commissioner of the district also informed the media that a strict check would be maintained on immigrants.

"We'll ensure that inner line permits are not issued needlessly" the officer assured.

Nagaland authorities move came out in the wake of terror blasts in neighbouring Assam on October 30 morning following a security review meeting with the state Home Minister Imkong Imchen on Friday.

Meanwhile considering the attacks by militants on Manipur Ministers and MLAs, the state home department has approved special training for personnel of the Manipur Rifles and Indian Reserve Battalion who are serving as escort commanders of minister and MLAs.

So far a total of 82 VIP escort personnel including those of state governor Gurbachan Jagat and Rajya Sabha Member Rishang Keishing have been approved for receiving special training at the Manipur Police Training Centre, Pangei.

Meanwhile widespread condemnation over terror blasts in Assam, Agartala on October 1 and Manipur as well were pouring in from various quarters including the United NGOs Mission-Manipur, North East Nationalist Congress Coordination Committee and Manipur based social body-Young Horizon North East India.

The news of serial blasts in Assam which claimed over 80 lives and injuring many others had left both Manipur and Nagaland state forces alerted.
