Shija Blood Center fetes repeat platelet donors

Imphal, August 01 2025: Shija Blood Center & Transfusion Services organised a felicitation ceremony at North Block, Shija Hospitals, Langol, to commemorate Intemational Friendship Day by honoring repeat apheresis platelet donors.

As per a release issued by Shija Blood Center & Transfusion Services, the event recognized the selfless contributions of these donors, whose lifesaving efforts reflect the spirit of friendship and solidarity, supporting thousands of patients across the region each year.

Shija Blood Center is the first in the State to introduce apheresis platelet donation- a specialized procedure that collects the platelets needed for patients with cancer, blood disorders, and critical illnesses, while returning other blood components to the donor.

This method enables more targeted and effective donations, making each contribution highly impactful.

The donors honored at the event have consistently supported this effort, strengthening community healthcare.

The event was graced by Dr Palin Khundongbam, CMD, Shija Hospitals; Dr Bonney Khundongbam, CEO, Shija Hospitals; Dr Ch Rajmani Singh, Medical Officer in-charge of Shija Blood Center & Transfusion Services; Suresh Thokchom, secretary, Shija Foundation; and Dr Salam Hemabati, consultant, Transfusion Medicine.

In his welcome address, Dr Ch Rajmani Singh thanked donors and partner organisations for their continued support.

Dr Palin Khundongbam praised the donors' dedication and emphasized that their actions save lives and reflect the power of community service.

The event honored 35 apheresis platelet donors with certificates of appreciation and mementos.

Thokchom Boboy of Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai was specially recognized for completing 19 donations, the highest to date.

Five organisations were also felicitated for their role in facilitating the platelet donation drives: Helping Hands for People, Manipur; Association of Voluntary Blood Donors; Green Brigade; Indian Red Cross Society; and NSS District Coordinator, Imphal East.

As a special gesture, Helping Hands for People, Manipur, received dengue fogging liquid bottles in recognition of their efforts in mobilizing the highest number of apheresis donors in the State.
