Kakching, March 01 2025:
Kakching Municipal Council staffers on Saturday evicted vendors who had occupied and stored items at shed No 1 and 2 of Kakching Supermarket, Kakching Thong Wangma, without authorisation.
A KMC team led by caretaker chairperson Naorem Sanjitkumar along with caretaker councillors, executive engineer Naorem Ramchandra, other staff and sanitary workers removed the encroachers, cleaned the market area and carried out line markings to prevent future encroachment.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the drive, Sanjitkumar informed that the two market sheds were constructed under the funding of 14th Finance Commission with shed No 1 earmarked for vendors coming from outside of Kakching and shed No 2 to be given to vendors after conducting a lottery.
But due to Covid-19 pandemic, the lottery process has been delayed.
In such situation, some vendors have illegally occupied and stored materials at the sheds, which necessitated the eviction drive, he said.
He also informed that the lottery for the shed No 2 will be held soon, and added that the line marking arrangement and electricity connection for the shed will be completed soon.
Sanjitkumar further appealed to the public to extend support to the Council in keeping the Kakching Keithel neat and clean and increase its business opportunities.
