Imphal, January 31 2026:
In a significant boost to rural development, Assam Rifles has handed over two 15 HP water pumps to Aishi and L Thinganphai villages under Operation Sadbhavana.
As per a release issued by HQ IGAR(South), the move aims to tackle water scarcity, a long-standing issue affecting agriculture and daily life in these Chandel District villages.
The pumps will support irrigation and provide potable water, benefiting farmers and households reliant on rain-fed sources.
The villagers of Aishi and L Thinganphai largely depend on rain-fed agriculture and natural streams, which often prove insufficient during the dry season.
The introduction of the pumps will enable efficient lifting and distribution of water from nearby sources, ensuring a dependable supply for drinking, household use and crop irrigation.
The villagers hailed the initiative, saying it will ease water woes, especially for women and farmers.
