Bishnupur, August 30 2024:
The Manipur High Court has imposed a penalty of Rs 30,000 on Kumbi Assembly Constituency MLA S Premchandra after rejecting an application filed by the MLA calling for dismissal of another petition filed by Ahanthem Shanjoy Singh challenging the result of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Elections 2022 with regards to 29-Kumbi AC.
The MLA had sought dismissal of A Shanjoy's petition on grounds that the case was "unreasonable and non-maintainable" .
However, Justice Guneshor Sharma rejected MLA Premchandra's application and imposed a Rs 30,000 penalty for wasting the Court's time and attempting to delay the case filed by Ahanthem Shanjoy.
It may be noted that while S Premchandra emerged victorious in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Elections on a BJP ticket in 29-Kumbi AC, Ahanthem Shanjoy secured the second highest votes on a JD(U) ticket.
The JD(U) intending candidate had filed a case against the BJP candidate at the Manipur High Court in 2022 challenging the election result citing discrepancies in the information furnished by S Premchandra while filing his nomination.
