State specific indicators should be identified to achieve SDGs by 2030: Deputy CM

Deputy Chief Minister Yurnnam Joykumar Singh has stressed the need to identify State specific indicators to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 .
He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a two day sensitization workshop on 'State indicator framework to monitor the achievements of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)' held today at the Classic Hotel in Imphal.
Y Joykumar said, "We all know that amidst Covid-19 pandemic, economic activities have been badly affected not only in the State but all over the world.
Economic activities have decreased and tax collection in the country has also been considerably less.
In this critical phase, State specific indicators have to be worked out.
Key areas like healthcare, education and providing basic amenities are the priority sectors.
Although the impact of Covid-19 pandemic has been harsh", we should never give up the roles and responsibilities to sustain ourselves and co-operate with each other to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030" .
He expressed confidence that the workshop will definitely help identify State specific indicators needed to achieve the SDGs.
Deputy Director General, NSO (FOD), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, MM Singh said, to achieve SDGs by 2030, steps should be taken up to reach certain 17 goals.
The Government is committed to achieve the SDGs by 2030 .
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will look upon the National Indicators Framework and National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) will implement all related activities, he added.
Professor E Bijoykumar Singh of Manipur University also spoke on the importance of 'true data' for proper planning and implementation of all development oriented programmes in the State.
Commissioner cum Secretary (E&S) Nidhi Kesarwani also spoke on the inaugural function.
Director (E&S) Peijona Kamei, senior officers of different Departments and delegates participated in the function.
