Imphal, September 27 2026: The World Meetei Council (WMC) will organise Mukna (an indigenous sport) and Khunung Eshei (traditional musical form) competitions on September 28 and 29 to promote the art and culture of Manipur.

In a statement issued today, the Council said the competitions would be held at Moirang on September 28 and at Thoubal on September 29 .

The prize distribution ceremony will be held in Imphal on October 1 on the 8th foundation day of the WMC, it said and appealed to the people of Manipur not to cause any disruption to the programmes scheduled to be held on the three days.

The Council, meanwhile, stated that safeguarding Meetei identity is crucial to ensuring the survival of the community.

Protecting and nurturing Meetei identity is the core objective of the organisation, it said.

The WMC said its movement was launched to safeguard Meetei identity and enable the community to participate in the global race with pride.
