Kakching, June 27 2026:
As part of a new initiative of the Government of Manipur to provide fertilisers to farmers at subsidised rates and at convenient locations, fertilisers were distributed to farmers of Serou, Sugnu, Wangoo and Kakching Khunou areas under Sugnu Assembly Constituency.
The initiative was launched to help farmers obtain fertilisers easily without incurring additional expenses and wasting time travelling long distances.
Speaking at the programme, Director of Agriculture, Peter Salam, informed that farmers who are beneficiaries of the PM-KISAN scheme can also avail benefits under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), clarifying that there is no restriction on receiving benefits from both schemes.
The Agriculture Director said that the department has taken up the initiative with concern for areas like Serou and Sugnu, which have been affected by the prevailing situation, and is making efforts to extend all possible assistance to the people.
He also sought cooperation and support from the public in implementing such welfare measures.
He stated that the fertiliser distribution programme is being undertaken for the first time and assured that similar facilities would be made available to farmers in the future.
Peter Salam also informed that alongside the distribution programme, departmental officials are also deputed to assist farmers, clarify doubts and help eligible farmers avail the benefits of PM KISAN.
He said the financial assistance of Rs 6,000 per year under PM-KISAN can be utilised for various agriculture-related activities.
However, he pointed out that the scheme is currently available only for agricultural land owners and many eligible farmers in Manipur are unable to receive the benefits due to incomplete documentation.
He urged farmers to submit Aadhaar card copies and land patta documents to the concerned Agriculture Department offices so that efforts could be made to extend the benefits to all eligible farmers.
Clarifying a misconception regarding PM-KISAN and NFSA benefits, Peter Salam said many farmers had surrendered their PM-KISAN benefits due to rumours that NFSA card holders were not eligible for the scheme.
He appealed to such farmers to apply again through the District Agriculture Officer or the Directorate of Agriculture to revive their PM-KISAN benefits.
The programme was also attended by Sugnu MLA K Ranjit.
