MCPCR seeks police report on scrimmage involving LS election candidate

Imphal, June 27 2024:
In connection with a scuffle between a team of police personnel and Moirangthem Tomtomsana yesterday in which the latter's minor children were involved, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has requested the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West and Director, Social Welfare to furnish a detailed factual report within five days.
Notably, Moirangthem Tomtomsana from Heirok was an Independent candidate in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
A letter signed by Regina Hongray, Member Secretary MCPCR addressed to SP Imphal West and Social Welfare Director has said that the police team were bringing Moirangthem Tomtomsana in a vehicle from Imphal airport when his minor daughter and son were seen running amid the crowded traffic while crying for the safe release of their father at Keishampat.
The letter added that the children also fainted momentarily as a result of the violent scene they witnessed.
While acknowledging the challenges encountered by police personnel in intercepting and apprehending an accused while children are involved, it added that the MCPCR has taken up suo motu cognizance of the incident.
Thus MCPCR has requested the aforementioned officials to submit a detailed factual report of the incident to the Commission within five days.
