Thoubal, April 27 2026:
An indefinite bandh was imposed along the Indo-Burma-Sugnu Road from Monday by the Youth of Pangaltabi in protest against the alleged assault on former DESAM president M Somorjit, during a mass rally held on April 25 .
The rally, organised by COCOMI, reportedly witnessed an incident in which Somorjit was allegedly assaulted, triggering strong resentment among residents of Pangaltabi.
The bandh call followed the expiry of a 24-hour deadline set by the group, demanding clarification from those allegedly involved in the incident.
Owing to the bandh, passenger transport services and vehicular movement remained largely suspended along the stretch.

However, the protesters allowed relaxation for essential activities, including medical emergencies, educational related and customary rituals.
In a bid to prevent any untoward incidents and restore normalcy, a team from Wangoo Police Station, led by the Officer-in-Charge, visited the area and held discussions with the bandh supporters.
Speaking in connection with the protest, Irom Arunkumar, advisor of the Youth of Pangaltabi, stated that Mayengbam Somoijit, a resident of Pangaltabi under Sugnu AC, has been actively contributing on any issue of the State and for the student community for nearly 18 years.
He alleged that during the rally, baseless accusations were levelled against Somorjit, which led to assault.
He further claimed that certain individuals, including some women who claimed themselves as Imas, were involved in instigating the attack.
He demanded a public clarification from those concerned and asserted that the people of Pangaltabi would not remain silent over the incident.
He added that the indefinite bandh would continue until justice is delivered in connection with the alleged assault on Somorjit.
