The indefinite Manipur bandh called by Film Forum Manipur and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council along with various CSOs and public, which was relaxed for 72 hours in view of Christmas, has resumed but for another 18 hours only with effect from midnight today.
Meanwhile, the proposed 72 hours general strike called by UNC in all Naga areas of the State will commence from today midnight.
On the other hand, to prevent any unwanted incidents during the course of the bandh as well the general strike, the respective District Magistrates of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts have imposed curfew from 6 am- 6pm tomorrow.
Considering the impacts of indefinite Manipur bandh and the possibility of creating misunderstandings among the various communities settling in the State, a public meeting was held at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai Community hall today.
The meeting was organized under the joint aegis of Film Forum Manipur, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and AMIK.
Representatives of around 30 CSOs of the State including UCM, AMUCO, IPSA, UPF, CLK, PANDAM, HERICOUN and different prominent women organizations of the State attended the meeting.
After serious deliberations over the issue of molesting and assaulting actress Momoco and opening fire at artists Guna and Prakash during a musical concert at Chandel district headquarters by one Livingstone, a cadre of 'IM', the meeting adopted a number of resolutions unanimously.
The resolutions included resuming the indefinite Manipur bandh from midnight today till 6pm of tomorrow (27-12-2002); to take up all sorts of agitations including sit-in-protests and rallies during and after the bandh; pressing the Union Government to arrest Livingstone and hand him over to the State government for taking up necessary legal actions against him; to remove all the designated camps of IM from Manipur since the cease fire does not extend; condemnation of the incident of ill-treatment of a Tangkhul girl by three miscreants in the evening of Dec 24 and to take up legal actions against the perpetrators; exemption of media, essential services and religious as well as customary functions during the general strike and to take up legal actions against the police personnel involved in killing journalist Dwijamani.
