Students, teachers continue protest against unreasonable monetary demands

Students and teachers continued to stage protest demonstrations in Bishnupur district today against the unbearable monetary demands imposed on educational institutions.
The protests were held under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand Committee urging all concerned to make schools and colleges a disturbance free zone.
In line with the protest, a sit-in was held at the gate of Nambol Higher Secondary School by the students and teachers urging all concerned not to impose unreasonable monetary demands on schools and colleges amid the prevailing unrest in the State.
Extending solidarity to the protest launched by the committee, students and teachers of Haokramband High School Kabowakching formed a human chain in front of the school and chanted slogans against the disturbance in the education sector.
The students sought the attention of the Government to let the students study peacefully free from hindrances and formulate a special policy to conduct class at least 220 days in a year.
They also urged the Government to stop politicising education and all forms of corrupt activities in education.
Voicing the same demands, a sit-in protest was held today by the students of Special Regular English High School Nambol at Nambol Sabal Leikai Community Hall.
The students and teachers of Bethel English High School Nambol also staged a protest in front of the school.
Similar protests were held by the students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff of Moirang College; Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School; Diligent Public School Moirang and Advance Intermediate College Moirang.
Placards which read, 'Stop imposing unbearable monetary demands to schools and teachers', 'Make education a disturbance free zone', 'No politics in education', 'Stop intimidating educational institutions', 'Save the future of students', etc were used during the protest throughout.
Apart from the above, various Government and private schools and colleges in the district held protests in front of their respective institutions.
Meanwhile, the students and teachers of Sacred Heart School, Yairipok Laimanai also staged a similar protest.
