As observed annually, the Directorate of Tourism, Government of Manipur will be observing "World Tourism Day" this year also on September 27 with the theme "Tourism and Biodiversity".
A function to observe the day will be held at the conference hall of Hotel Imphal here.
Commissioner and Director (Tourism), KK Chhetri informed in a press note today that the Directorate of Tourism will organise an essay writting competition as part of the observance on the topic "Tourism potential and problems in Manipur".
The first three best essay writers will be given cash prizes of ' 5,000, ' 3,000 and ' 2,000 respectively.
A competition on still photographs will also be held at the function.
The photographs will be exhibited at the venue from 10 am.
A panel of experts will select the best five photographs.
The five best winners will be given cash prizes of ' 5,000 to ' 1,000 respectively.
On the occasion, as resource persons, Prof N Mohendro will speak on the topic "Tourism and Economics in Manipur" and L Somorjit will speak on the topic "Tourism and Biodiversity".
The prize distribution and deliberation on the two topics will start at 2 pm.
Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, MLA E Dwijamani and Commissioner and Director (Tourism), KK Chhetri will attend the function as chief guest and president respectively.
The pressnote said that this is the second step of publicity on "Manipur Sangai Festival" (21st to 30th Novermber, 2010) at Palace Compound.
The first step has already been taken on September 7 at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi by observing "Manipur Day" in association with the Departments of Arts & Culture and Commerce & Industries, Government of Manipur along with Tourism Department of Delhi Government and Management of Dilli Haat.
