MHRC conducts awareness programme with police officers of Kakching

Kakching, February 25 2025:
Human Rights Commission (MHRC) in collaboration with District Police Kakching conducted an awareness programme with the police officers of Kakching district, at the SP Conference Hall today.
Full team of MHRC comprising its Member, Kangjam Khagendra Singh, Secretary, Haobam Rosita (IAS), Head of Investigation Division, IGP Mamata Wahengbam (IPS), along with Under Secretary and Law Officer and investigation team attended the programme.
It may be mentioned that the MHRC launched an awareness campaign for police officers under the theme "Needs of Police Reforms to ensure Human Rights" in January 2021 .
The MHRC launched this campaign under the mandate of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 .
The campaign aims to make police officers particularly Officer-in-Charges and Investigation Officers aware of various guidelines and special operating procedures issued by the National Human Rights Commission, so that police officers follow these guidelines and special operating procedures.
Th Vikramjit Singh (IPS), Superintendent of Police Kakching, Binoy Chongtham (MPS), Additional SP, A Romendro Singh, Additional SP along with 26 police officers attended the programme.
The awareness programme further deliberated on the Protection of Human Rights, 1993, which serves as the legal foundation of the human rights commission in India.
Discussions also covered the Paris Principles, an international principle which ensures independent functioning of human rights institutions.
The discussion reinforced the needs of police reforms to ensure human rights in the present juncture of turmoil in the wake of ethnic violence that started on May 3, 2023.The MHRC also distributed a book titled "A Basic Handbook for Human Rights Advocates and Investigation Officers".
MHRC member, Khagendra Singh advised the police officers to follow prescribed guidelines and laws while maintaining law and order.
