Senapati, June 24 2025:
Motorists and local residents have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of National Highway 2 between Chagoabung and Kangpokpi.
The stretch, which is a vital lifeline for daily commuters and transporters, has been left in a state of disrepair, making travel increasingly hazardous.
One of the major issues reported is the dilapidated road surface, riddled with potholes and uneven patches.
The worsening condition of the road has not only slowed traffic but also increased the risk of accidents, especially during the monsoon season.
Adding to the woes is the lack of proper drainage along the roadside, largely attributed to unregulated house constructions near the highway.
Without a proper water outlet system, rainwater accumulates on the road, further weakening the surface and accelerating its degradation.
In a particularly dangerous spot, a damaged culvert has become a major safety hazard.
With the concrete structure eroded and steel reinforcements now exposed, the culvert poses a direct threat to vehicles, especially two-wheelers and light vehicles whose tyres are vulnerable to punctures and damage.
Locals and commuters have appealed to the concerned authorities and the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to undertake immediate repair and restoration work before the situation worsens further and leads to serious mishaps.
