HERICOUN to document 'Ipan Thaba' tradition

Imphal, April 24 2013: With a view to preserve the age-old tradition of 'Ipan Thaba' observed on the sixth day of the birth of a child in the family, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has decided to do documentation on it.

This was informed by Mutum Churamani, President of HERICOUN, while speaking at a day-long workshop on "Yelhoumishingi Pokpadagi Ipan Thaba Phaobagi Thouram Pareng" held at the conference hall of Arts and Culture Department, Palace Compound here today.

Churamani, who presided over the inaugural function of the workshop, further stated that all the communities settling on this planet have their own culture and tradition.

Likewise, different communities settling in Manipur have their respective culture and tradition.

However, with the passage of time, a number of changes have been brought about in these traditions and cultures and the "Ipan Thaba" tradition of the Manipuri people too has started losing its original form and character.

So, in order to keep intact and preserve the "Ipan Thaba" tradition, HERICOUN would be doing a documentation on "Ipan Thaba" and as a part of this process, the day-long workshop has been conducted by HERICOUN.

The inaugural function of the workshop was also attended by Sapam Bheigya, Joint Director of Department of Art and Culture and Ima Janaki, President of MEEKOL as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.
