151 candidates lost deposits in 9th Assembly Elections

Imphal, January 24, 2012: As many as 151 candidates out of the 308 who contested the 9th Manipur LegislativeAssembly Elections lost their deposits as they failed to get one sixth of the total votes of their respective constituencies.

However, how much candidates out of the 291 candidates vying for the 60 assembly seats will lost their deposits will be known on March 6, the day of counting of votes.

The deposit amount of the 9th Assembly Election held in 2007 was Rs 5000 while the amount has been increased doublefold this year to Rs 10,000.According to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, candidates who failed to get one sixth of the total valid vote in their respective constituencies will lose their deposit amounts as penalty.

In the 2007 election, six candidates out of 12 lost their deposit amounts in Khundrakpam A/C.Five out of six candidates lost their deposits in Uripok A/C, four out of eight candidates in Konthoujam A/C, four out of seven candidates in Patsoi A/C, four out of seven candidates in Langthabal A/C, five out of eight candidates in Jiribam A/C, seven out of 10 in Chandel A/C, eight out of nine candidates in Thanlon A/C, five out of nine candidates in Henglep A/C, three out of six candidates in Hengang A/C, four out of eight candidates in Khurai A/C, one out of five candidates in Kshetrigao A/C, two out of five candidates in Keirao A/C, four out of six candidates in Andro A/C, two out of five candidates in Thangmeiband A/C, two out of four candidates in Sagolband A/Cone out of two candidate in Keishamthong A/C, two out of five candidates in Singjamei A/C, two out of four candidates in Yaiskul A/C, three out of six candidates in Wangkhei A/C, two out of five candidates in Sekmai A/C, two out of five candidates in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C, two out of five candidates in Wangoi A/C, three out of six candidates in Mayang Imphal A/C, four out of six candidates in Nambol A/C, two out of five candidates in Oinam A/C, one out of four candidates in Bishnupur A/C, two out of five candidates in Moirang A/C, three out of five candidates in Thanga A/C, one out of three candidates in Thoubal A/C, three out of six candidates in Wangkhem A/C, two out of four candidates in Heirok A/C, two out of four candidates in Wangjing Tentha, one out of three candidates in Wabagai A/C, one out of four candidates in Kakching A/C, one out of four candidates in Hiyanglam A/C, two out of four candidates in Sugnu A/C, four out of six candidates in Tengnoupal A/C, one out of three candidates in Phungyar A/C, one out of four candidates in Ukhrul A/C, two out of four candidates in Chingai A/C, three out of six candidates in Karong A/C, one out of four candidates in Tadubi A/C, three out of six in Kangpokpi A/C, two out of four candidates in Saitu A/C, three out of six candidates in Tamei A/C, three out of five candidates in Tamenglong A/C, two out of four candidates in Nungba A/C, one out of four candidates in Tipaimukh A/C, four out of six candidates in CCpur A/C, three out of six candidates in Saikot A/C and one out of three candidates in Singhat A/C.Candidates who could not get a minimum of 100 votes in the 2007 elections were Samata Party candidate of Andro A/CPh Chandra (62 votes), Independent candidate of Yaiskul A/C A Jagdish (69 votes), BJP candidate of Konthoujam A/C Th Manishang (67 votes), BJP candidate of Mayang Imphal A/C H Niku (58 votes), LJP candidate of Mayang Imphal A/C H Jayenta (40 votes), Independent candidate of Nambol A/C A Nabachandra (13 votes) and H Premjit (38 votes), Samata Party candidate of Oinam A/C A Angouba (65 votes), LJSP candidate of Thanga A/C Kaiminthang (47 votes), LJSP candidate of Kumbi A/C Thangjathou (47 votes), Samata Party candidate of Kumbi A/C Kh Rajen (69 votes), Samata Party candidate of Wangkhem A/C L Raghumani (46 votes), JD (U) candidate of Heirok A/C M Tombi (74 votes) and Independent candidate Tomtomsana (72 votes), CPI candidate of Chandel A/C DN Haokip (64 votes), MPP candidate Sokhopao Haokip (10 votes), SP candidate Ch Chandramani (15 votes), LJSP candidate Chungjalen Haokip (59 votes) and Independent candidate PR Salarki Chothe (39 votes), Independent candidate of Karong A/C SP Henry (35 votes), LJSP candidate of Tadubi A/C Sonjang Khongsai (87 votes), Independent candidate of Kangpokpi A/C S Lo (96 votes), LJSP candidate of Tamenglong A/C Kamilen Gangte (63 votes), LJSP candidate of Tipaimukh A/C Benem Paul (81 votes), Independent candidate of Thanlon A/C Helien Kipgen (30 votes), Samata Party candidate of CCpur A/C Pumjadou (81 votes) and Samata Party candidate of Singhat A/C ThanglianKhup (67 votes).
