Imphal, September 23 2025:
The All Manipur Nupi Marup has appealed to the doctors' fraternity to call off their stir and resume services at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal and other hospitals.
The suspension of the medical services at the hospitals amid rising cases of dengue, and potential outbreak of water borne diseases due to recent floods may have a catastrophic impact on public health, said the AMNM in a statement.
The AMNM said it strongly condemns the assault on a senior doctor of RIMS and vandalisation of hospital properties, and wants the police to arrest and punish the persons involved as per the law.
Notably, a senior gynaecologist of the RIMS Hospital was assaulted and grievously injured by a crowd of people-triggered by the death of a woman, Chingshubam Manju post delivery of a child on September 21.Aftermath of the incident, the doctors at RIMS had then suspended various services.
The decision of the Indian Medical Association, Manipur Branch to suspend services at RIMS and several other hospitals from September 23 to 25 will have serious impacts on people seeking immediate medical treatment, said the All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM).
The suspension of the services at the hospitals will impact poor and vulnerable people including the internally displaced persons, it added.
While the Director of RIMS has informed of constituting an internal inquiry committee to investigate the death of the woman, the doctors' fraternity must understand that their stir is having serious impacts on the people, the AMNM said.
Considering the hardships people are facing and in view of rising cases of dengue, the doctors' fraternity should call off their stir and resume normal services, the AMNM added.
