Imphal, July 23 2025:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Non-payment of 15 nos of Towers at Rengpang - M Khunou under 132/33 KV Station, has voiced strong concerns over the lack of compensation for the construction of 132 KV Double Circuit Transmission Line by the Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL).
According to the JAC, MSPCL constructed 15 towers in 2010 at Rengpang and M Khunou (Monjorong Khunou) villages without providing any compensation for the acquired land and the crops damaged during the process.
Ashinpou Gonmei spokesperson of the JAC and representative of the affected villagers, addressed the media at the Manipur Press Club, highlighting that in 2010, MSPCL had approached the villagers of Rengpang and M Khunou for the construction of 15 towers with assurances by the Department officials and local MLA of that time, Gaikhangam, that compensation would be provided for the land and crops affected.
However, despite the project being commissioned in 2011, MSPCL has reportedly failed to respond to the villagers' repeated pleas for compensation.
Gangmei revealed that affected families are still waiting for proper redressal from the concerned department and the State Government.
In this regard, the aggrieved villagers on June 17 have submitted an ultimatum addressed to the Chief Secretary, through the Power Commissioner and Noney DC.
The memorandum warned that if appropriate steps were not taken by July 20 to ensure compensation, the Rengpang 132 KV Line Substation would be shut down.
However, no official response has been received till date, stated Gangmei.
The JAC has now declared that if no positive response is received from the State Government and concern department by July 28, the JAC with the villagers will be compelled to shut down the 132 KV Line Substation of Rengpang.
