The High Court of Manipur on November 18 directed the 21 respondents of the Manipur Government including Chief Secretary, Commissioner Home, DGP, Security Advisor and SPs of 16 districts to submit the necessary report in connection with a PIL filed by social worker RK Joysana.
The next hearing has been fixed on November 25.Speaking to the media persons at Manipur Press Club, RK Joysana said that the PIL was filed at the High Court of Manipur seeking information about the measures taken by the law enforcing agencies to rescue the six civilians abducted by Kuki militants on November 11 at Jiribam.
He continued that a division bench of former Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Siddharth Mridul and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui after due consideration, directed the 21 respondents of the Manipur Government including Chief Secretary, Commissioner Home, DGP, Security Advisor and SPs of 16 districts to submit the report in connection with the PIL and fixed the next hearing on November 25.An RTI was also filed requesting information about the initiatives and measures taken by the State Government in tackling Kuki aggression.
Unsatisfied with the response of the Government, the PIL was filed at the High Court of Manipur, Joysana added.
The Supreme Court has directed the State Government to constitute 5 monitoring committees in connection with the violence in the State.
However, disregarding the Supreme Court's order, the State Government has not formed a single monitoring committee till date, said Joysana.
The Ministers/MLAs must understand that the people's demand for their resignation is a response to their inability to take positive measures to end the conflict, added Joysana.
