RIMS launches first 3D Digital Mammography Machine in Manipur

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, today inaugurated a state-of-the-art Digital Mammography Machine with 3D Tomosynthesis at the Department of Radiodiagnosis, marking a major boost to women's healthcare in the State.
Prof G Sunilkumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, formally inaugurated the facility as chief guest.
Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; Prof L Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics); and Prof S Subhaschandra Singh.
Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis, were also present.
Describing it as a "landmark achievement".
Prof Sunil Kumar said the machine is the first of its kind in Manipur and only the third in the North East.
The advanced 3D Tomosynthesis technology offers superior breast imaging, enabling early detection of breast cancer while enhancing patient care, medical education, and research, he added.
He announced that mammography services will be available to patients at an affordable cost of around Rs 300.Outlining future upgrades, he said RIMS plans to install a Biplane Interventional Radiology System and establish the NIDA Department during the financial year 2026-27.The installation strengthens breast imaging services at RIMS and is expected to play a crucial role in timely diagnosis and treatment, he added.
The programme was attended by the Deputy Director (Administration), heads of departments, Chief Administrative Officer, Financial Advisor, faculty members, nursing officers, resident doctors, students, and staff of the institute.
