UNC leaders formally arrested by Nungba police

Nungba police formally arrested UNC president Gaidon Kamei and publicity secretary Shangkhel Stephen regarding another FIR case taken up against the two.
The UNC leaders were arrested after they were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East by a team of Tadubi Police station.
Gaidon Kamei s/o Landou Kamei of Noney Part 1 and Shangkhel Stephen s/o Shangkhel Thamok of Komsem village, Chandel district were brought before the Court from the custody Tadubi Police Station where they have been lodged in connection with another FIR registered under section 147/149/427/124-A/120-B/506/153-A Indian Panel code.
The IO of the case through the APP prayed for remanding the duo to judicial custody for a period of 15 days till January 3 .

The Court heard the alleged accused persons, their learned defence counsels namely Advocate S Naobi and Advocate Achamliu Golmei, the APP and the IO of the case.
The Court earlier noted that the OC of Tadubi police station received a complaint petition filed by one Naorem Arun on November 21 at around 6.20 am.
The complaint said that Arun was transporting chicken feeds towards Imphal when some unknown persons numbering around five suspected to be volunteers of the United Naga Council (UNC) stopped his vehicle near Tadubi bazar along NH 2 and broke the wind shield of the vehicle at around 2 am of November 21 .
The UNC leaders were earlier remanded to seven days police custody and interrogated minutely.
During the course of investigation, it was rev ealed that some UNC volunteers namely Dili Mao and Athili were also involved in the arson.
Even as the IO of the case sought to arrest Dili Mao and Athili, they could not be arrested as their whereabouts were not known.
Noting that there was prima-facie evidence against the alleged accused UNC leaders could not be ruled out at the stage, the Court granted the IO's prayer.
Hence the two alleged accused persons were remanded to judicial custody till January 3 .
In the meantime the petitioner/IO of the case of FIR number 45(11) 2016 Nungba Police station sought formal arrest of the two UNC leaders.
In a written submission, the IO stated that one Lakhvinder from Punjab lodged a written compliant at Noney Police station on November 12 at around 2.30 pm.
According to the complaint, Lakhvinder was driving his truck loaded with 440 bags of cement from Silchar along NH 37 when some unknown persons suspected to be blockade supporters/activists of UNC stopped the truck and pulled him down along with his second driver Jagat Singh that near Lukhambi Part 2 village at around 10.40 am of the same day.
The suspected blockade supporters set ablaze the truck and threatened them to leave the place immediately.
CJM Imphal East Court registered it as cril Misc case.
After perusing the IO's submission, the Court ruled that there is sufficient ground for causing formal arrest of the said alleged accused persons.
Subsequently, the Court remanded the alleged accused persons into police custody for 14 days till January 2 next year.
Family members of the UNC leaders were present when they were produced before the Court.
