Kom Union Manipur (KUM) has expressed deep concern over a press release issued in the name of the KUM which was uploaded on social media on July 16 and urged all concerned to not repeat such acts in the future.
Addressing a press meet at KR Lane, Imphal on Friday, KUM president Serto Ahao Kom said that a press release issued in the name of KUM by one S Kom from Phailen village of Kangpokpi district was found uploaded in social media on July 16 .
Highlighting that the press release was written in Kuki language and Phailen is not even a Kom village, Serto Ahao clarified that KUM and the Kom community have no connection whatsoever with the person called S Kom and the press release which was issued on July 16 .
"The press release was issued with the aim to tarnish the name of KUM and drag the Kom community in the ongoing conflict", said Serto Ahao while strongly condemning all involved in the shameful act.
Further, Serto Ahao said that Kom is a neutral community and will always work to promote peace & integrity in the State.
Meanwhile, the Kom Tribe Organisation Valley (KTOV) has clarified that the Kom community has always stood for the integrity of Manipur and the 45 Kom villages under the jurisdiction of KTOV have no relation whatsoever with people threatening the integrity of the State.
In a release, KTOV said that the person claiming to be the joint secretary of COTU Defence namely S Kom is from Phailen village, Kangpokpi district and one Thangson Karong, information secretary of Kuki Army hails from Samulamlaan, Churachandpur district.
The KTOV also cautioned that S Kom, Thangson Karong and any other individual working against the stand of KTOV will be held responsible for their own actions.
Further, the KTOV advised all the people belonging to the Kom community to remain neutral and not indulge in any anti-social activities.
