Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraoba commences

Imphal, April 20 2026: The Irat Thouni Thouram (Kum Chanba) of Jma Kondong Lairembi Moreh, commenced today at Iboyaima Sumang Lila Complex, organised by the Ima Kondong Lairembi Thougal Lup, Moreh.

The ritual programme was attended by displaced Meitei residents of Moreh, along with members of the general public who came from various parts of the State to take part in the ceremony.

Speaking in this connection, Ima Kondong Lairembi Thougal Lup, spokesman Irom Rajen, stated that due to the prevailing ethnic violence in the State, many residents have been unable to return to their native place in Moreh.

As a result, the ritual programme is being held at the present venue for the third consecutive year.

He further said that although both the State and Central governments had earlier assured that steps would be taken to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their homes, no concrete measures have been implemented so far.

Consequently, the annual Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraoba ritual continues to be organised away from its traditional venue.

Expressing optimism, Rajen noted that with firm belief, the community looks forward to the day when they can return to their birthplace in Moreh and resume the ritual in its original setting.

He also expressed gratitude to the people of Moreh and the general public who have come from different places to attend the Irat Thouni Thouram.
