Students don black badges to mark ''Puya Mei Thaba"

Students have started donning black badges from today onwards ahead of the commemoration programme of Puya Mei Thaba (burning down of sacred scriptures of Manipur), the incident which is considered as the most atrocious and darkest event in the history of Manipur.
The 296th anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba will be observed on the 23rd day of Wakching month of Manipuri lunar calendar which falls on January 22, 2025 .
According to a release issued by the International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP), the Black Day observation will continue till January 22, 2025.During the three-day mourning, students will wear black badges and the Salai Taret flag will be flown at half-mast to condole the burning of Puya.
The main observation of Black Day was held today at Kindergarten Montessori School in Sagolband Takyel Kolom Leikai.
It was attended by Dr L Dhaneshwor, Principal, Kindergarten Montessori School; Moirangthem Naokhamba Meetei, convenor ICOP and Dr Waikhom Gojen Meetei, vice president Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba, Kangleipak as presidium members.
At the event, Naokhamba stressed on the need to commemorate Puya Mei Thaba every year to preserve the true history of the indigenous people of Manipur.
Today, Black Day was observed at Mannu English School, New Checkon; Halley English School, Khurai Soibam Leikai; Sacred Heart Hr Sec School, Porompat; Lamjing Meira Sindamshang, Pourabi; Konsam Tombi & Sachi School, Khurai Laishram Leikai; Enlighten Knowledge Hr Sec School, Sangakpham; Alpha BCI Memorial Academy, Thangmeiband; Vale Academy; Scholars Academy, Hiyangthang: Universal Students Academy, Singjamei and Dynamic Education Foundation, Bamdair.
