PICK, AKNCTL condemn killing, arrest; back JAC's demands

Imphal, December 17 2024: The Peace and Integrity Committee Kyamgei (PICK) and The All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup (AKNCTL) have strongly condemned the Manipur police for the recent killing of Laishram Prem and arrest of six individuals at Salungpham.

They also condemned the killing of a student in police firing during a protest which left another injured at Jiribam on November 17.A press release issued by PICK has appealed the State Government to meet the demands put forward by the concerned JAC, which include, terminating the service of the police personnel responsible for the death of Laishram Prem and the unconditional release of all six individuals.

The statement also expressed shock at Home Minister Amit-Shah's recent statement during an interview claiming that the ongoing violence in the State is an "ethnic clash" and not connected to terrorism or religion.

On the contrary, the Home Minister previously attributed the conflict to illegal infiltrators at the Parliament, said the press note.
