Director CAF & PD urges public to refrain from panic buying

Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF&PD), Government of Manipur; Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Indian Oil Company Limited (IOCL) jointly held a Press Conference at Imphal Divisional Office, IOCL, Chingmeirong, Sangakpham, Imphal, today.
K Bono, Director, CAF&PD said that the Press Meet was held especially to inform the general masses to refrain from panic buying of petroleum products and its related items including LPG gas cylinder.
Director said that the present situation in the Middle East has affected the economy and petroleum products all over the globe.

In India, due to the planned management of the available stock and also the inflow of the petroleum products from the five countries, the impact is less and concerning Manipur, there is adequate stock, he added.
He further said that in every district, Monitoring Committee headed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner/District Supply Officer are formed to check the timely arrangement and delivery of the LPG cylinders.
The daily quota of filled cylinders is delivered to the distributors.
Surprise visits/raids have been done and fortunately no cases of malpractices by the distributors and at the outlets were detected, he added.
As the government has ensured 100 per cent LPG and PNG supply to Education and Health sector, Director, CAF&PD said that the department has also given priority to both the sectors.
Besides, 13 agencies have been identified for delivering 5kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders to the migrant workers as a special arrangement, as is done in other parts of the country.
The workers may get the cylinders through the identified agencies from the department, he added.
Director appealed the public to avoid misleading information that creates anxiety for panic buying of petroleum products and LPG cylinders and gave assurance that there is adequate stock available in the state and necessary steps are taken up by the department to check malpractices by the concerned agencies and distributors.
Dr Engam Pame, IIS, Regional Director, PIB, Imphal; N Kashung, Senior Depot Manager, IOCL and Bobby Haobam, OSD, CAF&PD were also present at the Press Meet.
