Thoubal, April 16 2026:
The Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal District Branch, has strongly condemned the alleged action of Central forces against its volunteers on April 14 in Bishnupur district.
According to a press release issued by the IRCS Thoubal District Branch, the incident occured when its volunteers were transporting injured persons to a hospital following a violent episode reported on the same day at Thinungei.
The organisation expressed deep concern over what it described as a failure by the security personnel to recognise and respect the humanitarian services being carried out by Red Cross volunteers.
The release further highlighted that the IRCS, part of a global recognised humanitarian network, operates under the patronage of the President of India.
It termed the alleged action by the Central forces as unfortunate and such such behaviour undermines the morale and dedication of volunteers engaged in lifesaving efforts.
Appealing for accountability, the Thoubal District branch has urged both the State and National authorities of the IRCS to take necessary steps to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
