Imphal, April 16 2009: SHIJA Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI), Langol, which has the unique distinction of being the 'first' in many aspects, has once again earned the enviable status of being the first hospital in the whole of Eastern India which has the Doppler Guided Haemorrhoidal Arteries Ligator (DGHAL) .

Managing Director of Shija Hospitals, Dr Kh Palin announced during a press conference held at Shija Auditorium in the hospital complex at 1:30 pm today that the first ever DGHAL in Eastern India has been installed at the hospital.

Dr Palin informed the mediapersons about the pioneering effort of Shija Hospitals in the treatment of piles in Eastern India as a whole.

He also placed some of the achievements of the hospitals that the first 'Cryofreezing' non operative treatment of piles in Eastern India was started in this hospital in 1986 .

The first 'Infrared Coagulator' (IRC) non operative treatment of piles in Eastern India was installed in 1997 .

In 1999, the 'Stappling Surgery' for III and IV degree piles started for the first time in Manipur, and this year, the DGHAL has been installed at Shija Hospitals for the first time in Eastern India.

DGHAL is today the most advanced method of treating Haemorrhoid/piles all over the world.

With the installation of DGHAL, Shija Hospitals today is leading in the eastern region for the treatment of piles.

It is a non invasive procedure for the treatment of piles.

DGHAL offer safe, fast and effective relief for all grades of haemorrhoids, Dr Jugindra explained.

Under this method, a miniature Doppler ultrasound device is gently inserted into the anus, and an audible signal allows the surgeon to pinpoint the exact location of the arteries supplying blood to the haemorrhoids.

The surgeon then ties off each artery (called ligation) by placing a stitch around it and knotting the ends.

Because the stitch is placed not in the anus but in the lower rectum, where there are almost no pain nerves, the whole procedure is virtually painless.

With the blood supply to the haemorrhoids being obstructed, the pressure in them is reduced almost immediately and they start to shrink.

In just a week or two, they are no longer noticeable and the symptoms resolve.

The DGHAL method is safe for all kind of patients, especially for the HIV patients as it is a non invasive surgery wherein it involves no loss of blood.

According to a press statement issued by Deputy Manager, Business Development, Santosh Shekhar, the cost of DGHAL treatment at other centre of India is around Rs.25,000/- for General Ward and Rs.30,000/- for Special Ward.

Shija Hospitals will be charging Rs 18,000/- for General Ward and Rs 20,000/- for Special Ward.

As an introductory price DGHAL treatment will be charged at Rs.15,000/- for General ward patients and Rs.17,000/- for Special Ward patients till April 30.The cost is inclusive of room rent, medicines and consumables, etc.

To commemorate the installation, there will be free screening camp from April 17 to 23 from 7:30 am to 2 pm, Santosh Shekhar informed.
