Imphal, September 15 2026:
A Fast Track Court has convicted a 44-year-old IRB personnel today for sexually assaulting a girl in 2008 .
The convicted personnel of the 1st Indian Reserve Battalion has been identified as Chanambam Binoy of Pangei Lairam Mapal.
Additional Session Judge Ashem Tarunakumari convicted the accused under Section 376 IPC, and fixed September 28 for sentence hearing.
Charges against the convict were framed on April 18, 2016 .
According to the case record, the convict was briefly posted at the residence where the victim was staying during the general elections.
On October 7, 2008, the convict lured the victim girl out of a quarter located at Kanglapat on the pretext of watching Puja festival.
He then took the victim to a remote location somewhere in Imphal and sexually assaulted her.
When the victim returned home after missing for about an hour with bloodstain on her, her mother enquired.
The victim then disclosed the incident to her mother.
The Investigating Officer of the case, Women Sub Inspector of City Police Station Ng Rajlakhi, submitted the chargesheet against the convict under section 366 A and 376 for committing rape.
The prosecution, in order to prove the charges levelled against the convict, produced 14 prosecution witnesses, 12 documental exhibits and 5 material exhibits before the Court.
The Court, after hearing the submissions and on perusal of the case record, found Chanambam Binoy guilty and convicted him for committing rape under Section 376 IPC .
The Court fixed September 28 for announcing the quantum of punishment.
