Imphal, February 15 2026: An awareness programme on conserving forests and wildlife was held today at Ishikha, Imphal East district.

Themed, "Ishikha Hill Protected Area: Patlou Chingjen to Makha Chingjen under Sambei Purun Reserve Forest", the event underscored the vital role of safeguarding the local ecosystem.

The programme was graced by dignitaries, including Angom Ningthou Poireiton, Sana Konung; O Khamba Meitei, president, Ishikha Village Development Committee; O Nilachandra, Lecturer, Naorem Birahari College; Yumnam Dijen, Sanglakpa, Sana Konung; social workerK Brojendro Meitei, N Phunindro, and N Sanahanbi Leima.

Speaking on the occasion, Angom Ningthou Poireiton urged all to protect forests and curb environmental damage to combat climate change.

He highlighted how conserving local wildlife naturally shields crops from pests and diseases.

He called on the public to end destructive practices like hillside fires and forest clearing, emphasizing shared responsibility in these efforts.

At the event, speakers also referenced the Manipur State Gazette of June 5, 1933 (Sambei Purun Reserved Forest Darbar Resolution 10-A-7 1932-1933), which requires communities to protect and maintain adjacent forest areas in their natural state.

The event concluded with the unveiling of forest conservation stones and adoption of four key resolutions to protect the Patlou Chingjen to Ishikha Makha Ching hill area: no hunting of local wildlife, no cutting trees or bamboo without reason, no soil extraction, and no hill fires.
