Imphal, September 14 2026:
A coordinating body for regional political parties active in Manipur has been set up at the initiative of the Manipur Meeyamgi Ihou (MAMI), a platform for youth.
Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani has been elected chairman of the coordinating body named Manipur Regional Political Party Coordinating Committee (MRPPCC) .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Khaidem Mani said that MRPPCC is constituted by Manipur Democratic People's Front (MDPF), People's Political Party (PPP), People's Democratic Alliance (PDA), Democratic People's Front (DPF) and Good Governance Party (GGP) .
He said that MAMI, an exclusive platform for the State's youth, has been working relentlessly to set up a coordinating body of regional political parties active in the State.
MRPPCC is a result of MAMI's relentless efforts, he said.
Since May 3, 2023, Manipur has been facing a crippling crisis and a large number of people belonging to different communities have been killed.
All throughout this protracted crisis, governance was literally absent in the State, Advocate Khaidem Mani said.
People of all sections have been suffering untold misery and innumerable difficulties resulting from the absence of responsible governance, he said.
The State Government has been unable to exercise any of the powers guaranteed by the Constitution and its Directive Principles of State Policy.
The State's political leaders are there just as ceremonial functionaries, attending inauguration functions and other public functions as chief guests without any will to take decisions, he remarked.
Khaidem Mani said that the MRPPCC was set up with a consensus to draft an issue-based common minimum programme.
The public demand for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is unequivocal.
Census is also necessary but conducting a census without first updating the NRC will bring drastic changes to the State's demography, he said.
He added that the member parties of MRPPCC will fight all such key issues collectively.
