Imphal, September 13 2024:
BJP Manipur Pradesh stated that there is neither closure of party's office as pre-emptive measures associated with the prevailing unrest situation in the state nor any such instruction came from the national leaders.
Dismissing media reports about closure of party's state office, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K Sarat clarified that no instruction for closing party's office in the state came from central leaders.
Party's senior leaders, however, discussed about abiding with restrictions under imposition of curfew by the government.
Some leaders during the discussion even suggested halting the usual gathering at party office as it would tantamount to violation of curfew.
Accordingly, some changes were made for entry of workers at party office in view of curfew but there was no specific instruction from national leaders, he said and called upon people to put collective efforts to bring back peace and normalcy in the state.
In his reply to a query on speculation of putting the state under 'suspended animation', K Sarat said he is not the authority to comment on such a sensitive issue as the same has to be decided by authority at the highest level.
There had been similar speculations in the past but nothing happened, he reasoned.
Fewer people are visiting the party office in Imphal because of the ongoing curfew, Sarat said, while categorically denying media reports claiming that central leaders have advised to close down the party office.
The party's state office-bearers have not received any such directive.
There is no question of BJP head office in Imphal closing down, he asserted with reference to reports that the party's head office in the state was closed down following instructions from central leaders.
Curfew is being imposed since September 10 in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts following student protests demanding the removal of the DGP and security advisor for their alleged inability to handle attacks by Kuki militants.
