Ibobi seeks thorough probe into plane crash

Former chief minister Okram Ibobi has called for an international-standard investigation into the Air India flight that crashed minutes after take-off due to dual engine failure in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The former chief minister, who represents Thoubal assembly constituency and is CLP leader, on Friday, visited the Thoubal Awang Leikai residence of Nganthoi Sharma Kongbrailatpam, a victim of the plane crash.
He offered condolences and shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved family.
Expressing hope for an international-standard investigation into the crash, Okram Ibobi described it as a tragic incident, noting that the plane crashed just minutes after take-off, reaching an altitude of only 600 feet.
Of the 242 passengers on board, all but one lost their lives.
Among the deceased were two cabin crew members from Manipur.
He said that while sufficient safety measures could have potentially prevented such an incident, it is essential to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
He also conveyed his deepest condolences for the loss of the two cabin crew members from Manipur, Nganthoi Sharma Kongbrailatpam and Lamnunthem Singson, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice in the service for the nation.
