Products worth Rs 30 lakh sold at State Handloom Expo

Around Rs 30 lakh worth of products were sold at the State Handloom Expo (Hatkargha Mela) which kicked off from March 30 on the occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba with the participation of 60 stalls.
Speaking at the closing function of State Handloom Expo held today at GM Hall, Imphal, Th Basanta, Deputy Director, Directorate of Handloom and Textiles and General Manager (Administration), Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd said that each stall earned around Rs 50,000 each at the 14-day expo.
Expressing joy at the success of the handloom expo, he called for increased efforts to sell the handloom and handicraft items of the State to the national and international markets.
Meanwhile, a Kabui woman by the name of Martha Pamei who participated in the expo said that the mela has provided here with a platform to sell traditional attire of the Kabui community as well other handloom and handicraft products.
The sales have been good as Cheiraoba festival is coming up, she added.
Saying that she has obtained the necessary documents such as Handloom Mark and Weavers ID, Martha expressed a desire to sell her products at the national and international level and sought the help of the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles.
Additionally, Konthoujam Monica from Moirang Thangjing Sindam Shanglen Relief Camp at Phougakchao Ikhao thanked the Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd for the opportunity and appealed for skill upgradation programmes on handloom and handicrafts for the relief camp inmates.
Priyadarshi Daripa, Deputy Director, Weavers Service Centre; L Dasumati, Project Manager, Imphal West and Handloom Awardee A Anita also graced the valedictory ceremony organised by the MHHDC Ltd .
